Our Favourite Things To Do Around Berwick20/04/2021
Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend escape, ideas for quality family time or ways to shake up your everyday routine, there are plenty of ways to spend your time well around our neighbourhood. Here are some of the best things to do in Berwick.
Explore An Oasis
Boasting a playground, amphitheatre, BBQ picnic grounds and a serene lake, the locals love the world-class Wilson Botanic Park. With 39 hectares of lush lawns, flora and fauna to discover including a plethora of birds, turtles, frogs and lizards. There’s also a new café in the park, which recently opened at the end of 2020. Pop by to the dog-friendly Gather: Food, for a Noisette croissant and a Green Goddess juice (it’s all about balance), before you hit the trails.
Otherwise, Berwick Springs has a similar vibe to the botanic gardens, with lots of opportunities for strolling, sunbaking and fresh air. As a wetlands reserve, it’s just a lot wetter! Kayaks and fishing rods welcome.
Be A Good Sport
When a slightly more serious stretching of the legs is called for, head to the beckoning green grounds of Sweeney Reserve. This park offers plenty of places for a game of softball, footy, cricket, soccer, tennis or netball.
Alternatively, skaters, BMX and scooter riders will love The Shed Skatepark. It’s the biggest indoor skatepark in the hemisphere and even offers lessons for newcomers. Or for a literal change of pace, walk or run the picturesque 1001 Steps walk at Bayview Park at sunrise before swinging by Mad Benji for a nourishing smoothie bowl.
Mini-Adventures For Mini People
Berwick is the perfect spot to keep your kids entertained. Clip ‘n’ Climb is a healthy fun park with a choice of interactive and digital climbing challenges, a sky-high obstacle course, and a jungle-inspired playground.
Then there’s Croc’s Playcentre, a vibrant, all-weather playground featuring slippery slides, bouncy castles and a classic ball pit. It’s soft and safe here, expertly designed even for babies and toddlers.
For those seeking quieter times, there’s even a Little Red Train that can take children on a fun-yet-peaceful 1.6km journey through the Botanic Park.
Shop Local and Lovely
Springfield Estate – complete with 1860s mansion, manicured gardens and creative spaces – is home to The Old Cheese Factory. It’s here that the Berwick Farmer’s Market takes place on the second Saturday of each month. Pick up produce from Ken & Hilda’s vegetable truck along with gourmet pies, speckled eggs and Blue Bay cheeses.
Beyond just food, there’s also Akoonha Park Market showcasing 100s of stalls every Sunday. Here you’ll find flowers, plants, gifts, breakfast (fresh hot jam doughnuts!) and pony rides among other treasures. Keep an eye out for their occasional night markets too.
When retail therapy isn’t quite cutting it, we turn to relaxation therapy. We bet your regular day spa isn’t as grand as Burnbank Estate! This 1800s homestead is surrounded by 6.5 acres and offers up beauty treatments like cocoon wraps, deluxe facials and paraffin manicures alongside champagne service, morning tea and even multi-course luncheons if you wish to make a day full of escapism.
