Berwick Village Highlights – Part 1

With a 19th century English charm, the suburb of Berwick today is a mix of old and new. The row of shops along High Street are filled with historic buildings and occupied by stylish cafes, award-winning business, and a variety of retail for all your shopping needs.

A wide central strip of manicured gardens is a great breath of fresh air making it a pretty picturesque suburb. Berwick Village has all the local amenities that you need and is a short distance away from Alira.

Featured this month – a favourite local eatery with stylish decor, and an award-winning butcher for all meat lovers.

Opened since October 2019 on High Street, Populus is a great spot for your morning coffees and lunch dates. With a strong focus on community and design as much as their coffee and food, they bought this space to bring people of Berwick together.

Named after the Populus trees that line the High Street, the architecturally designed interior embraces the dark spaces with the use of different interior lighting and soft finishes. The contrast of the black and white terrazzo against the rose and blush hues creates an inviting and stylish space in a community known for its historic country charm.

Serving all-day breakfast and lunch, with customer favourites of Chilli Scramble and their version of avo smash ‘Spring Time Smash’ there’s a great inner city vibe at this venue.

Seating 120 guests in this space, they are open 7 days a week. Visit their website and Instagram page for the latest opening hours.

Griffin & Morris Village Butchers

An award-winning bespoke butcher serving top quality meat in Berwick, Griffin & Morris is the area’s go-to destination for all your meat cuts and smoked fish, plus pantry staples including bread, milk, eggs, marinades, and sauces – all of which have been carefully selected from local farmers and producers.

All meat is sourced from local Victorian farmers, with preparation, slicing, and smoking done on the premises. Alongside their award-winning boneless ham – recently crowned 1st place in Victoria and Australia in Australian Pork Limited Awards, they have free-range beef and chicken, plus fresh seafood from Tasmania.

The meat is also supplied to local cafes and restaurants in the area, and even as far as Sorrento and the Mornington Peninsula.

Aside from meat, they have a range of homemade pies baked in-store (from Wagyu & Red Wine to a Family Roast Chicken & Veg pie classic), and a selection of ready-made meals to choose from.

Griffin & Morris will be celebrating 5 years next month in July, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for more information.
